Bio-Identical Hormones & Women’s Services
The Tahoma Clinic has a variety of programs for women who are interested in optimizing their health prior to menopause and after menopause. The programs range from basic gynecological exams, menopausal support, gynecological conditions such as endometriosis and fibroids, to prevention against osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, and cancers. Each program is individualized to meet personal needs and to address your prior history/family history.
Our most popular program involves evaluation and use of Bio-identical natural hormone replacement therapy in a safe and effective manner. Dr. Jonathan Wright, MD originated the ‘bio-identical’ (or ‘identical-to-nature’ biochemically) blend of estrogens in 1982, continuing on to develop cyclical application of hormones shown to be low by laboratory testing and also developing tests to ensure their safe use.
As we age, our hormone levels change. For example, as early as 30 years of age, our DHEA levels start declining. At the same time, our Cortisol starts to rise. This combination can result in weight gain, especially around the middle, increasing your risk of cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance. Other symptoms that occur with menopause include:
- Mood Fluctuations
- Slowed Memory
- Lowered Bone Density
- Lowered Sex Drive
- Rise in Blood Pressure and Cholesterol
- Changes in Menstruation
- Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
- Vaginal Dryness
- Sleep Difficulty
Each woman experiences these changes to varying degrees.
Menopause is a natural process a woman’s body goes through as she ages. Many different approaches can be taken to help support this change including diet, lifestyle, vitamins, minerals, specific supplements for individual health concerns, and bio-identical hormones as necessary. To start, your hormone levels will be evaluated by a 24-hour urinalysis which allows for multiple steroid metabolites to be measured accurately. Then, a physician will work with you to regain hormonal balance safely and effectively. Tahoma Clinic physicians are expert at understanding the intricacies of hormone metabolism, practicing along with Dr. Jonathan Wright and working closely with Meridian Valley Laboratory (www.meridianvalleylab.com).
