Dr. Cristina Maria Persa, MS, ND, FAAMFM
Hello and welcome! I am Dr. Cristina Persa, a Washington State Board Certified Naturopathic Physician. I was honored to join Dr. Wright’s Tahoma Clinic after graduating from Bastyr University with a Naturopathic Doctor degree.
I am a member of The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, and, as of 2019 I became a Fellow in Anti-Aging, Metabolic and Functional Medicine (FAAMFM) and a Health Practitioner Diplomate in the Clinical Science of Anti-Aging (ABAAHP).
My clinical interests are chronic and autoimmune conditions (in both adult and pediatric population) using evidence-based complementary medicine. Some of the most common conditions I treat on a regular basis are: environmental and food allergies, digestive disorders, adrenal and thyroid disorders, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, female disorders (PMS, menopause, PCOS, uterine fibroids, fibrocystic breast disease), male disorders (“low T”), skin disorders (acne, eczema, psoriasis), alopecia, asthma (in children), sinusitis. I believe that good medicine is based on good science! My treatment protocols are designed using nutraceuticals, botanicals, bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), diet and lifestyle recommendations. My practice integrates the proven protocols of Dr. Wright along with my own experience and education.
I was born and raised in Cluj-Napoca, the most beautiful city (Yes, I am biased!) located in the heart of Transylvania, Romania. I earned my MD (Medical Doctor) degree from the prestigious University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Iuliu Hatieganu” in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Upon completing four years of residency in Clinical Pathology I was awarded a scholarship from the University of Nebraska and I moved to the United States. At the University of Nebraska, while I was working on my Master of Science Thesis, I conducted lab experiments to help elucidate the biochemical mechanisms of age related cataract formation. After graduation, I did research in glaucoma at the University of Arizona, in Tucson.
I feel fortunate to have a strong academic background in both allopathic and naturopathic medicine, which ideally trained me to have a true holistic approach and to guide my patients in choosing the best therapies for their needs (be those natural, conventional or both). There are many factors, such as genetics, diet and lifestyle, environmental toxicity, emotional/psychosocial trauma that may contribute to a particular disease and each person may react differently to those factors. The ancient Greek physician, Hippocrates (who is widely considered the Father of Medicine) taught us that “It is more important what sort of person has the disease than to know what sort of disease the person has”. It is our duty, as physicians, to identify those etiological factors and find out why they caused the disease in that particular person. The true healing occurs only if the real cause is addressed. There are various therapeutic modalities that can be applied, on a highly individual basis, in order to reverse the physiological and biochemical imbalances that lead to a pathology. While conventional modalities are designed mainly to resolve the acute conditions and to relieve the symptoms, the natural treatments strive to heal the body by strengthening the immune and regenerative functions that we all carry. Both forms of medicine are powerful and there is a time and place for each one of them! To learn more about my educational and professional background, please click here.
